Title: Heating device for a household appliance.
The invention relates to a heating device for a household appliance, in which an air flow is guided and heated over a heating register built into a flow housing.
Such a heating device is known from German patent specification DE 32 19 067 A1. In this known heating device, the heating housing containing the heating register, in order to avoid a heat radiation which leads to a deterioration in efficiency, is provided with an extra envelope. This enclosure is spaced from the periphery of the heating housing so that air flow channels are formed therebetween. A parallel air flow is conducted through these air flow channels, the flow direction of which runs counter to the flow direction of the heating air flow. The parallel air flow is then supplied to the actual heating air flow, so that the radiant heat from the heating housing absorbed by the parallel air flow is recycled back into the heating circuit.
With such heating devices it appears that an uneven distribution of the air flow occurs across the width of the heating housing. With the usual uniform arrangement of the individual heating elements, this leads to different air temperatures across the width of the heating housing. Since, as a rule, a certain maximum temperature may not be exceeded with such heating devices, the maintenance of such a maximum temperature with uneven temperature distribution leads to a reduction of the optimum heating efficiency of the device.
The object of the invention is to design a heating device of the aforementioned type such that it can provide the best possible heating efficiency when certain permissible temperature values are maintained.
The solution of this task is possible according to the invention in that the heating register has a heat generation profile over the width of the flow housing, which corresponds to the air flow profile existing over the width of the flow housing. By adapting the heat generation profile to the flow profile, a uniform temperature distribution over the width of the flow housing is possible, whereby the heat quantity delivered by the device reaches an optimum.
A uniform temperature distribution over the width of the flow housing is achieved in a constructionally simple manner, because with a heating register consisting of several heating elements at the place or places of the maximum air flow, the arrangement density of the heating elements is also greatest or because with a heating register that several heating elements consist of heating elements which have a higher heating efficiency at the location or locations of the maximum air flow.
It is particularly advantageous to implement clothes dryers or washing machines provided with a drying device with the described heating device.
The invention will now be described in more detail below with reference to an illustrative embodiment shown in the drawing. In these drawings: Fig. 1 schematically shows a conventional heating device with corresponding flow and temperature profile; and Fig. 2 schematically shows a heating device according to the invention with corresponding flow and temperature profile.
The heating devices shown each consist of a flow housing 1 and a heating register 2 built into it. The heating register 2 comprises several heating elements 3 which are designed as heating coils. An air flow indicated by an arrow 4 is passed through the flow housing 1. Because of the friction occurring on the walls of the flow housing 1, a delay of the air flow takes place here, so that an uneven flow profile 6 results over the width of the flow housing 1. In the usual uniformly distributed arrangement of the heating elements 3, as shown in Fig. 1, this uneven flow profile 6 leads to an uneven temperature distribution over the width of the flow housing 1. Reference numeral 7 denotes the temperature profile which adjusts itself.
Since, as a rule, certain maximum temperature values may not be exceeded with such heating devices, the heating efficiency is determined by the maximum temperatures occurring in the temperature profile. The heating efficiency is therefore not optimal, because the lower amount of temperature occurring in the temperature profile reduces the amount of heat that can be released by the heating device.
In the heating device shown in Fig. 2, the heating elements 3 are arranged such that a higher heating efficiency of the heating register 2 is available in the heating register 2 in the maximum of the flow profile. In this way, the air flow 4 is also heated in the region of its maximum flow rate as strongly as in the region of the walls of the flow housing 1, where smaller flow rates prevail. This leads to an even temperature distribution over the entire width of the flow housing 1 as indicated in fig. 2 by the temperature line 8.
Since, therefore, the maximum permissible temperature can be reached over the full width of the flow housing 1, an optimum heating efficiency of the heating device is also the result. By means of such a uniform temperature distribution, a different heating or drying speed of the goods to be treated with the heating device is also avoided.
If such a heating device is used with clothes dryers or with washing machines equipped with a drying device, shorter drying times can be achieved. This again results in energy savings for the drive motor which drives the laundry-receiving drum of these machines.
